The Basketweavers Guild of Bedford County was formed in January 2006 to bring together individuals with an interest in the art of basket weaving. Thirty-five individuals, including many new comers to basket weaving, attended the first meeting on January 14, 2006 to make a pencil basket.

The Basketweavers Guild of Bedford County (BGBC) has evolved since that day. The BGBC holds a class the second Saturday of each month. The BGBC offers varied classes to match a weaver's skill level. We challenge our more experienced weavers by welcoming instruc-tors who help us learn new skills and techniques and also welcome budding artists by offering Beginner level classes.

In October 2007 BGBC held their first annual Weaving Your Cares Behind retreat. The retreat continues to be a favorite gathering of BGBC members and visiting weavers. Nationally known instructors have taught us many new skills and techniques.

In 2007 BGBC made market baskets and filled them with personal care items for Your Safe Haven, a local comprehensive victim service agency. (shown at left) The baskets are given to individuals who find themselves unable to return home due to domestic violence. The tradition of making market baskets and the donation of personal care items continues as our annual fall project for Your Safe Haven.

Please join us if you share our love of basketry. New friends are always welcome.
